Hi all!  I wanted to apologize for the inconsistency in subject area information in my newsletters.  We have been working a lot as a grade level on rearranging things, and it is causing the previous newsletter information to not match up with our changes!  Know that the changes have been VERY good.  I have noticed huge improvements this year in teaching phonics, comprehension, writing, and math! I have never been more pleased with the changes, and I hope that you are seeing much academic growth in your little one!

Our field trip will be on the afternoon of May 17th.  It will be to the Missaukee County Conservation District.  We have never been there so I am unsure what it will all entail.  We will not be going to the Carl T. Johnson Center this year.  Mrs. VanderVlucht was contacted by the MCCD, and asked us if we would like to try it!  We said that we would; so we will see how it goes. J

Dear Families,

We have a secret celebration planned for your child.  With your help, we would like to plan a special surprise on Friday, May 11th .  This is a secret.  Please do not tell your child about it!

We would like you to tell all of your friends and relatives that we are planning a special “Surprise Day” in our classroom.  Please ask them to send a letter or card to your child at school.  We will be collecting this mail and putting it in our surprise box.  On May 11, we will open the box and find out what the surprise is inside.  (It will be all that mail!)

Imagine how surprised and excited your child will be to discover all that mail sent to just them.  Please ask all of your friends and relatives to write to your child and to PRINT the message to your child so that he/she will be able to read the cards independently.  PLEASE NO TOYS OR CANDY.  This creates problems with the other children who don’t receive toys or candy.  J

Please address the mail as follows:

Your child’s name
Mrs. Kamphouse’s First Grade
McBain Elementary School

107 East Maple Street

McBain, MI  49657

Start sending mail now and keep it coming in until May 10.  Thank you so much for helping with this surprise!!  (remember, don’t tell!)

Sincerely,

Mrs. Kamphouse

Hi all!  I hope that you had a nice spring break!  It was a wonderful day back.  The children transitioned very nicely.  I think that they were tired!  It was very quiet in here all day, but there were lots of smiles. J
I can’t believe that I just wrote all of the special days until the end of the school year!  We are on our last semester, and I have to say that I am blown away at how much they have grown!  We had our Morning Warm-up this morning, and they whipped right through it!  They could tell me what a compound word was, and singular and plural nouns.  They could also read comparison number sentences to me with ease!
I am planning on having our Unit 6 Math test on or around next Tuesday.  I am VERY pleased with their math growth.  Mrs. Rodenbaugh asked what in the world we were doing in our room, because their growth has been so huge! YAY!
And I have already expressed my excitement over their reading and writing!! You will see what we are working on in reading on the back of this page. We are beginning our opinion writing unit of study. J  Have a wonderful week!
