Oct. 4:         Geer’s Farm Pumpkin Patch field trip

Reading:
Thank you for reading with your child each night!  They are excited to have books that they can keep. J
We have been studying books closely since day 1.
Ask your child about Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, The Dot, Molly Lou Melon, and Lily’s Purple Plastic Purse.  They are learning all that it takes to comprehend a story, and I think that they are loving this time.  We practice predicting, retelling, visualizing, making connections, giving our opinions, and so much more!  Next week our story will be Crysanthemum.

Word Work:
We have been working on CVC words (hat, mop).  This week’s focus was short o.  Last week’s focus was short a.  Next week we will try to add l blends at the beginning of these words (slop, plan).

Math:
Next week we will be taking the math portion of the NWEA test on Tuesday and Wednesday.  We will most likely take the Unit 1 test on Wednesday or Thursday, depending on how the days go.  Beginning in Unit 2 we will take weekly quizzes instead of the end of the unit test.  We will also begin taking home homework during this unit.

Field Trip:
The Geer’s Pumpkin Patch note was in your child’s mail today.  We will go to the patch from 9:00-11:00 am on October 4th.  PLEASE SEND IN $5.00 before this date.  Please send another $5.00 and the note back to me if you plan on joining us for the field trip.  Please let me know if you are in need of help for your child’s $5.00 fee.  We do not want them to miss out. J

Student of the Week:

Reid was our Star Student last week.  Reid will turn 7 on December 3rd! He loves his mom, adventure hikes, fireworks, and cake! Reid’s favorite movie is The Nut Job 2.  He hopes to learn to swim better, and to learn more about Science! J

Mrs. Kamphouse’s Class -September 15, 2017

Sept. 18:      DELAYED START: School begins at 10:00

New Folders:
Starting Monday your child will have a new take-home folder!  They finally came in!  These will have inserts on the cover and back cover.  I have put a calendar in the front cover insert.  Please leave this calendar in the folder.  If it is difficult to get in and out you are welcome to keep it in the back to school sleeve inside of the folder.  You will initial each date on the calendar that your child reads their take-home book to you.

Some children may also have Sight Word booklets to practice in their take-home folder.  I will highlight the list that they are working on!

Reading:
I will begin working with children in small groups next week.  Most children will work on the same take-home story for 2 days. (THEY WILL READ THE SAME PAPER BOOK TO YOU FOR 2 NIGHTS.) These will go home in paper form in their new take-home folder.  The paper books are theirs to keep.  Any “real” books from our classroom library need to be read at home, and returned the following day please.

Math:
We will finish up Unit 1 this week.  Beginning in Unit 2 the children may have a few home links (homework) papers sent home.  These are just quick review questions from the day’s lesson.

Writing:
I am so very happy with our Writer’s Workshop time!  The kids are LOVING this time! We are learning that our pictures tell a story, and all we have to do is Think, Draw, and Write about whatever we want! J  They are even learning to share their writing using the student microphone, and the classroom document camera.  It is a pretty big deal!

Running Club:
We have started a Running Club/Brain Booster!  This takes place outdoors for about 20 minutes EVERY morning!  The kids are loving this time, and it really helps them to focus when we go back indoors to work.  It would be helpful if your little one kept tennis shoes in their locker for this.  Of course, they are welcome to just wear their tennis shoes all day too!  They are able to just walk during this time as well.  Therefore, if they forget their shoes they will still be able to participate.

Scholastic:
Last night our first Scholastic book order form was sent home.  These will be due next Wednesday, the 20th.  You are welcome to send them to me, or order online with our class code: FXZP4.

Volunteering:
Please send me a Class Dojo message if you wish to volunteer once a month for half of the day.  Wednesday mornings work well this year.   This will help me to begin to put together a schedule.  We will have a lot of fun dates to volunteer, as well, if you would prefer to come in to help out on those dates.
Student of the Week:
I was going to draw sticks for our special student, but I was way ahead of myself this summer!  I created a new job chart for the classroom, and there is a Start Student card on it already!
This week Reid’s number fell on the Star Student job.  The numbers go backwards from there in alphabetical order on the chart.  Reid’s All About Me information will be in next week’s news! J
